Northern Nevada Children's Museum's Free Day. This is a great opportunity for anyone who hasn't been here yet (or who doesn't have a pass) to get in and have some fun. After our first visit here (on a Free Day), we decided to try out the 6-month family pass, and it's already more than paid for itself. To learn more about this great museum check out my review here.
Walker River State Recreation Area - Grand Opening
For this event the entrance fee to our newest State Park, located in Yerington, will be waived. In addition to everything the park would normally offer, there will also be lots of family-friendly fun. See this article for more details.
The Smithsonian Museum's Annual Museum Day
From their website: "Museum Day is an annual celebration of boundless curiosity hosted by Smithsonian magazine. Participating museums and cultural institutions across the country provide free entry to anyone presenting a Museum Day ticket. The Museum Day ticket provides free admission for two people on Saturday, September 22, 2018."
So here's how this one works.
You get 2 free tickets for each email address you enter. For our family, this means my husband and I each use an email address (of which we each have several) to claim a pair of tickets. This gives us enough to get everyone in except our toddler, who is almost always free to get in anyways.
There is no limit to how many email addresses you can enter, so you can visit as many places as you have email addresses.
For example, one could be at the Nevada State Museum (read my review here) when it opens at 8:30 and spend a couple of hours there. Then you could take a picnic lunch up to Bower's Mansion (which opens at 11) and see what there is to see there. From there you could head the rest of the way to Reno and check out the National Automobile Museum and/or the Wilbur D. May Museum, Arboretum, and Botanical Garden. All you need is enough email addresses to claim tickets with and you could have all kinds of fun!
National Public Lands Day
Perhaps, while you love to have fun, you also love to give back to our community. If this is the case then here is a great opportunity for you!
"National Public Lands Day (NPLD) is the nation’s largest, single-day volunteer event for public lands. Held annually on the fourth Saturday in September, it will be on Saturday, Sept. 22 in 2018. NPLD is also a “fee-free day”—entrance fees are waived at national parks and other public lands."
Visit the website to find events near us. There are about 4 within a reasonable drive of Carson City if you are interested in participating.
I was not able to find a list of locations that are waiving fees for tomorrow, but if there's a National Park or any other Public Lands location you want to visit it would be worth calling and finding out.
So there you go! If you know of any other FREE family fun, share it in the comments here, or on our Facebook or Instagram.
