Every time we visit my husband at his office we drive past Governor's Field. The kids see the play structure through the fence and beg to stop and play, but we're always on our way somewhere and never have time to stop. The other day I finally remembered to leave time to stop at the park, and the kids were so excited!
The best place to park to access the play area is in the first parking lot on the left, after you turn onto Evalyn Dr. The play area is tucked back between two ball fields and is a little bit of a walk from the parking lot, but not too bad. I actually like that there is really only one entrance/exit to the play area so that if you have a kid who tries to run away there's only one way for them to go that is problematic.
As with most parks around here there's not shade near the toys, so this might not be a good park to visit in the middle of the day, but otherwise we liked it. It's pretty toddler friendly, though there is one climbing structure on the play set that was a bit tricky.
Each wheel on this climbing tower spins, making it very difficult (and, I felt, somewhat dangerous) for kids to climb it. My four-year-old, who is normally fairly adept at things like this, was unable to climb up this tower without help.
The play area also features two ride-on bouncy toys and a bench for parents to sit on. It is right in between two ball fields, so there is a lot of room to run and play. The fence goes all the way around both fields, and I believe that the only entrance/exit is the one towards the parking lot.
One big downside to this park is the location of the restrooms. You may be able to see in this picture that there are two portable toilets out in one corner of one of the ball fields. They are a ways away though, and if your kids are like mine they completely refuse to use those things.
There are flush toilets, a drinking fountain, and picnic tables way over in the middle of the park complex, between playing fields 3 and 5. The best place to park to access the restrooms is to follow Evalyn Dr. all the way around the comlex to the north side of the park. You will find parking spaces, and sidewalk that leads through a small picnic area to a building that holds space for a concession stand and the restrooms. These bathrooms are easily the nicest ones I've seen so far in any public park around here. There is no changing table, but other than that and the distance from the play area you won't hear a complaint from me.Essential Details:
