Not.The.Average.Kids - Reno Business Review

Do your kids love to craft? I know mine do! Give them some paper, scissors, and glue and they're happy for what seems like forever. As awesome as it is watching their creativity blossom though, I don't always love the mess that comes with it. Tiny paper trimmings, sticky glue dribbles everywhere, you know what I mean. So, when I was approached a few weeks ago by Katelyn at Not.The.Average.Kids with a chance to try out one of her adorable craft kits I jumped right on that opportunity! My kids couldn't wait for the day when we finally got to break open the box and get started creating! I'm excited to share our fun with you and to let you in on a way to get this awesomeness into your life for free (but only for a limited time, so keep reading)!

Not.The.Average.Kids (NTAK) is a local small business that focuses on encouraging creativity in kids. Each month they have a new theme for their craft kits. The theme for March was "Under the Sea", and April's is "Bunnies!"
The monthly craft kits are packaged in simple but adorable boxes, with each different craft in it's own envelope. The outside of the envelope shows you approximately what the final product can look like, and inside you will find everything you need to make the craft.  The box even comes with the glue sticks you will need for assembly. The closest thing to a complaint we had with the contents of the box was that some of the crafts came with rather large googly eyes and pipe cleaners that were really too big to be held in place with a glue stick. We always have some Elmer's glue and/or tape on hand though, so it didn't actually slow us down at all.
While you could make the crafts using only what is in the box, we enjoyed having crayons, markers and scissors available so the kids could personalize their crafts however they wanted to.
All three of our kids (ages 3-7) enjoyed these crafts. The 3 year old needed a little bit of help, but really enjoyed the whole process.
The 5 and 7 year olds had a marvelous time creating. It was fun to see their different approaches. The younger kids were in a hurry to make ALL the crafts, while the oldest spent a huge amount of time on one craft getting it *just* right.
In the end we took all our fish and created a display (the background is a roll of wrapping paper from Dollar Tree) on the door of our Play Room. We actually couldn't fit all the fish on one door, but I was out of blue paper so the other fish haven't made it into the display yet. Oh well.
Here's how to get your hands on one of her $25 monthly themed craft boxes:
If you are local (Truckee, Tahoe, Minden, Carson City, Fernley, Panther Valley, Reno, or Sparks/Wingfield) the best way to order is via Instagram or Email (see links below) and NTAK will actually hand deliver your order to you for free.
If you live outside of this area head over to her Etsy shop and you can order your kit that way.

As if these monthly craft boxes weren't cute enough, Not.The.Average.Kids also offers Birthday Party Kits! Katelyn will work with parents to develop a craft that fits the theme of the party and will provide everything needed for each guest to create their own artwork to take home as a unique party favor. You can see some examples of these birthday kits on her Instagram account. She will bring all the supplies to the party and craft with the kids. When the crafting is over she will clean up and be on her way. ($50 for 1/2 an hour of crafting, $75 for a full hour)

And now, here's how to get your hands on your own NTAK crafts for free. To celebrate their first six months in business, Not.The.Average.Kids is offering FREE crafting parties. This offer expires in July, so don't wait too long to jump on it! Here's how it works: You pick the time and place for your party and NTAK shows up with 20 crafts that you can choose from. She will bring all the necessary supplies and even help the kids make the crafts. When the party is over she'll clean up and be on her way. Can you say easiest kid party ever?!
