Did you know that the Carson City Airport hosts an Open House every year? There were several events going on last weekend, but we knew we wanted to make time in our schedule to check this one out. I'm so glad we did. There were planes and helicopters of all shapes and sizes, and so many fun things to see and do!
We pulled in to the airport and were greeted by plenty of helpful volunteers who guided us to our parking place. A short walk and we were on the tarmac, up close and personal with all kinds of neat aircraft. I had anticipated that the only facilities available would be porta-potties, but there were some nice bathrooms in the main terminal building (the smallish round building right at the entry).
As we wandered up and down there was a great variety of things to see. There were retired military craft from the
Cactus Air Force Museum (trying to find out more info so we can go visit here!), as well as active-duty Navy aircraft, medical rescue choppers, and so much more! The kids really loved getting to see inside the medical helicopter and learn about all the neat stuff they do.
While most of the aircraft on display was just for looking at, there were several that the public could climb in, including this great bi-plane. All the kids took a turn sitting in the pilot's seat.
When the kids were tired of walking around in the sun we headed over to one of the hangars to enjoy some great free STEM activities, geared for all ages. Everything from DUPLOS, to robotics, to rocket building, and more.

This was a great family-friendly activity for kids of every age, and I hope we're able to go again next year!
