Jump Around Carson (JAC) Bus Rides - Carson City

I tell you what; you know you (and your kids) are bored and tired of being trapped in the house by poor air quality when you decide to do something crazy like go for a joy-ride on the local public transit system, the Jump Around Carson bus. :) It actually turned out to be a fun way to get out, see the town, and not break the bank. If your kids are crazy about any kind of large vehicle then this might be a fun treat for them, and it's so easy for you! I'll share a few useful details below.

HOW LONG IS THE RIDE?
The Jump Around Carson buses run on 3 different routes (technically 4, but two of them are identical other than travelling in opposite directions), each route being about one hour long. This makes it really easy to find the stop nearest you, hop aboard, and just ride it for an hour until you get right back to where you started. There is an option to transfer between routes, but we haven't done that so you'll want to click here for transfer instructions if you plan to give that a shot. I have also read that you can connect with buses up to South Lake Tahoe and to Reno from the JAC routes, but I don't know more details about that.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
Click here for a full list of all the fares. In short, it's $1 for adults and 50 cents for kids (5-18), ages four and under are FREE. That means that when my kids and I rode it cost us only $1.50. They thought it was a grand adventure, and you won't find a carnival ride anywhere that can take the whole family for that cheap! :)
WHERE ARE THE STOPS?
To find the stop that is most convenient for you, you have a couple options. You can go to the JAC page of the city website and view the routes and schedule via this link, or you can download the JAC app which gives you real time updates on where the buses are at and what time they will arrive at each stop. You can even set it to send you a reminder when the bus is getting near the stop of your choice.

WHAT ELSE DO I NEED TO KNOW?
-Our bus driver told us that children had to be buckled. Car seats weren't required, but lap belts were.
-You must have exact change at the time you board the bus.
-No food/drinks on the bus. Plan your ride for a time when your kids shouldn't be too hungry.
-Buses accommodate bicycles and wheelchairs.
