After weeks of smoke keeping us inside, we finally had a day that had fairly clear air so we decided to go explore a new park and have some fun. This little park looked promising, so we stopped by for a bit. It wasn't quite as fun as some of the others we've visited around town, but the duck pond is fun!
When you arrive at the park there are a couple of parking options. There is a nice paved parking lot (which is closest to the playground and the horseshoe courts) on Appion Way, and street-side parking on Overland Street (this is closest to the pond and the tennis courts). One bonus of this park is the fire station right next to the park, so if you're lucky you might get to see the truck come out with the lights and sirens going.
This park looks older, and while most of the equipment is in good shape there were a few difficulties. Many of the elements were too far off the ground for my 2 and 4 year olds to reach, and they are both fairly tall for their ages.
The hardest thing for my kids to reach was the ladder to the monkey bars, but even the stairs were fairly difficult.
The kids had a fun time playing here, but we did find that most of the play structure had puddles of water standing on it. I was not aware of there having been any rain the night before, so I wonder if there is a problem with the sprinklers? It did make it a little hard to play with the tunnels and the slides with puddles sitting in them.
This park had fairly decent bathrooms. They weren't spotless, but weren't to bad either. There were no changing tables to be found, but there were soap dispensers in the bathrooms which not all parks have. There is also a gazebo with picnic tables and BBQ grills. I didn't see a drinking fountain, but there was a water spigot over by the gazebo if you were to get desperate.
After playing for a while we wandered over to check out the pond. There were tons of ducks and geese, and I found myself wishing I'd come prepared to feed them. The kids would have loved that.
There is a little rock bridge leading out onto a small island in the middle of the pond. It would have been fun to sit out there and feed the birds. This pond is also stocked and open for fishing for those who are interested.
