If you're looking for something to do that involves getting out of the house, but not necessarily outside, I have an idea for you. Did you know Carson City has a Fire Fighting Museum? Did you know it's FREE? Well now you do!
The Carson City Fire Museum is tiny, but definitely worth stopping in at some point. It's located in the Carson City Fire Department's Station #1 near downtown. Park in the parking lot behind the station, and head inside through the main doors. Let the person at the front desk know you're there to see the museum and they'll get you all set up. My kids were even given fire hats and goody bags!
The museum is only one room, though the displays are set up so that you can't see it all from the doorway. They have several horse-drawn fire carriages, as well as some great vintage fire trucks! There are display cases that tell the history of fire-fighting in the region, and show off some really fun memorabilia and fire-related antiques.
I will be honest though, this is probably a better activity for older kids. All the toddler wanted to do was throw the pea gravel that was under the displays, and the four year old was pretty bored. My 7 year old enjoyed it all though! :)
The fire station has nice restrooms just outside the museum door, as well as a drinking fountain. The whole thing is wheelchair/stroller accessible.
