The other day we decided to go for a Sunday afternoon drive and explore the area a bit more. We were hoping to find somewhere we could get down to the river around the south end of Prison Hill. Unfortunately it seems like there is only private land between the road and the river here, so that didn't work out. What we DID find though was Golden Eagle Open Space, which ended up being a fun place for the kids to get out and play and to do a little hiking around.
The road into the open space appears to be little more than the bottom of a wash. We hadn't planned on doing any off-roading, so we weren't in a vehicle that could handle going very far up the dirt track. Had we had dirt bikes or or some other ATV with us it could have been a fun adventure! We got as far up the road as we could, then decded to hike around. We headed to the top of the hill closest to the river to see if the view was any good. We enjoyed it, what do you think?
There are no official trails here, so hiking here was lots of bushwhacking and clambering over boulders. It was fun, but a little difficult for our 3 year old.
There are no amenities here. No restrooms or anything. BUT, it was quite peaceful. For most of the time we were out there we were the only ones around. At one point a couple of dirt bikes came over the hill from Prison Hill, but other than that and the geese down at the river it was quiet.
