Nevada State Capitol Museum - Carson City

When my husband told me a while back that the Nevada State Capitol building has a museum upstairs, I figured I'd go check it out sooner or later but didn't exactly put it at the top of my list. I imagined some dark tiny room somewhere with a few pictures and maybe an artifact or two, but if only I'd known it's so much more than that!
To get to the museum, you first have to find a place to park. There are free public parking lots located nearby (designated by yellow stars on the map below), or you can find street side parking around the area.
The ground of the Capitol Building are very nicely landscaped and are pleasant to wander around, and there is a free, self-guided walking tour of the building available. When we visited the brochures for the tour were right inside the main front doors, but if you don't see them I'm sure whoever is at the front desk could point you in the right direction. Once you're ready to explore the museum head up stairs and look for Battle Born Hall.

This great little museum is free to the public and only opened in October of last year, so it's actually quite new. It is clear that a lot of time and effort went in to making the space open and inviting, and to making the exhibits interactive and engaging for visitors of every age. You can make coin rubbings, play games about state wildlife, play a guessing game with historical figures, view 3D models of mine interiors, and so much more. It really was a fun experience!
This museum isn't huge, but it gives you a great overview of the history of the state in general and our capital city specifically. If you've been to some of the other local museums you may find that you already know some of the stories, but you may also find that there are new tidbits of information to pick up that you didn't know before.
Outside of Battle Born hall, there are other things to see and do while you're here. Around the corner is the original State Supreme Court Room, with a fun audio exhibit that tells the stories of some of the more exciting and interesting cases the court has dealt with.

This building does have drinking fountains and public restrooms (no diapering facilities). The ladies room is located right outside the museum, and the men's room is around on the other side of the stairway.
