Douglas County Public Library - Minden

One of the first thing our family does when we move somewhere new is check out the local library. They are such a great way to get involved in the community, participate in fun events, and find something great to read. This library isn't the closest to our house, but it's really not all that far away so we figured it was worth taking a look. 

We have been to some spectacularly kid-friendly libraries in the past, and I'm sad to say this one doesn't really fit in that general category, BUT don't stop reading quite yet. They really do have a great selection of kids' books, and several computers available for children to use. The one thing they don't have is any kind of play area for the littles. There's a checkers board on a table, and these two goofy chairs, and that's it. So if you're looking for some fun reading material, this is your place. If you're looking for a place to spend an entire morning, this isn't quite going to cut it. 
We have been to story time here a couple of times now, and they really do have a great program. Both times we've been there the group has been somewhat small (6-10 kids), but I consider that to be a plus. At the Toddler Story Time they read a couple of books, then pulled out a basket of musical instruments for the kids to play with. It was short and sweet, but the kids loved it. At the Preschool Story Time there were a few more stories, a short music time (with singing), and a cute craft. Check the calendar here.

The library staff are friendly, welcoming, and happy to assist you. It looks like they have some great stuff planned for the summer too, so I'm excited to get to join in on some of that as well. 

All in all, I'd say this is a great place to go for a fun story time and some great books to take home. Just don't plan to stay all day.
