Did You Find One of Our "Hide and Seek" Painted Rocks?

Have you heard of the awesome trend of painting rocks, then hiding them around the community for people to find? This was big in the Phoenix valley when we lived there, and now that we've moved here we decided to jump on the bandwagon. If you found one of our rocks we'd love to hear from you. You can comment anywhere here on the blog, or (because I know blogger can by stinky about comments) you can also comment on our Facebook page or our Instagram. We'd love to hear from you!

Here's how it works. Get your hands on some rocks and some paint (there are tons of blogs/websites out there with product recommendations and tutorials) and create a work of art. It doesn't have to be fancy, just have fun with it. I love that this is a craft that can involve the kids but it's also engaging to adults as well. Fun for everyone! Make sure that after you're done painting you seal your masterpiece (Mod Podge works great), then leave it somewhere fun.

Now, you get to keep your eyes out for all the great rocks others are hiding around town. If you want an idea of where to look there are lots of groups on Facebook where people share where they're hiding and finding their rocks. When you find one you can either keep it (preferably replacing it with one of your own, but whatever) or re-hide it for the next person to find.

Our family has been painting up a whole pile of rocks, with the plan to hide them at every new place we go. That means that everywhere we've reviewed here on our blog has (or did have at one time) one of our rocks hiding there, so keep your eyes open! I'll update this post as we go with pictures of our fun rocks and where we've left them. I hope you have fun searching for them, and if you find one we'd love it if you would comment anywhere here on our blog and let us know!

Rocks We've Hidden So Far:

We hid this one in the maze at Washoe Lake State Park. I have since learned that you should never hide rocks in state or national parks. Oops. Won't do that again!

This one is hiding outside the Nevada State Railroad Museum, what a fun way to spend a day!
It was a gray rainy day, so this little guy got left behind when we visited the Carson City Library for LEGO Club.

This cutie is sitting in  North Sunridge Park. Talk about a park with a view!

My four-year-old's favorite rock. She named it "Uni". Uni is hiding in the rock borders around the parking lot at the Douglas County Library in Minden. Check out story time there, it's a lot of fun!

This little guy is sailing through Lampe Park in Minden. What an awesome play place!

Real octopuses are masters of disguise, but this little guy tends to stick out among the rocks at South Sundridge Park
Spooner Lake State Park was an awesome place to go for a family-friendly hike.
We loved the beautiful little valley at the Tahoe Meadows trail. What a fun family hike!
Baby owl here got left behind when we did the Blue Line Trail through historic Carson City.
Also left behind on the Blue Line Trail.
3rd and final rock we left on the Blue Line Trail

Blackwell's Pond Park, what a fun place to play and experience nature!

This cutie is hanging out along the nature wetland trail at Blackwell Pond Park

We stumbled upon a fun play area at Terrace Park. The kids had fun a marvelous time here!
After an amazing day at the Nevada Outdoor Experience we just had to leave a rock behind at the CC Gun Club.
A nice summer-time treat hides at Carriage Square Park.
Hidden at Blackwells Pond Park and Riverview Park (some still not hidden, will update when  they are).
Hidden at the Carson Aquatic Facility and the Carson City Public Library (some still not hidden, will update when they are).
One of these got left behind at the Carson City Gun Club, the rest are still waiting to get out there.
