Carson City Fair - Fugi Park Carson City

The last week of July was the Carson City Fair, and we loved it! Having grown up participating in the county fairs where we lived as kids, my husband and I were excited to relive the fun and nostalgia of the fair. I was surprised that several other families we talked to didn't bother going because they weren't interested in the carnival portion and didn't know how much more there was to see and do there. Hopefully I can help spread the word and more people will want to attend next year. We sure plan on being there, and maybe we'll even enter a few items into the competitions. :)

We went to the fair the first night it was open, then again on Saturday. Because we were planning on spending all day Saturday at the fair I only snapped a few pictures the first night, but then I forgot to bring my camera with me on Saturday. Sorry, but this is all you get in that department. I'll have to be sure to do better next year!

There was plenty of parking for this event, which was held at the Fair Grounds at Fuji Park. All along Clear Creek Rd there is street-side parking, as well as a parking lot at the fair grounds at Fuji Park. And, in case that wasn't enough, there was additional parking at Walmart with a JAC shuttle to/from the fair grounds. My kids were so excited at the prospect of riding the bus we went that route even though there would have been enough parking at the park.
As far as things to see and do, there's a ton! The livestock barn was full of goats, sheep, pigs, cows, and more. The kids loved looking at all the animals. The pens aren't very easy for kids to see into, so we had to pick them up at nearly each pen for them to see what was inside. There were many of the animal owners on hand to answer questions and show us their animals. Some even let us pet their animals, which the kids loved. If you're interested in the animal portion, be sure to go to one of the many shows that happen daily during the fair.
Also there to enjoy was a display of antique tractors, art/photography/sewing/gardening/etc exhibits in a nice air conditioned building, live music outside, tons of vendors, and more. Other fun events that happened were tractor pulls (both for the adults and any kids that wanted to join in), a community Safety Day with all kinds of fun activities and demonstrations, chili cook-offs, and so much more. And of course there was a small carnival, with rides suitable for all ages. There really was something for everyone!
If you plan on attending next year bring plenty of sunscreen, water bottles, and sturdy shoes. There are bathrooms available (mostly porta-potties), and several food vendors if you don't want to haul your own munchies or meals.
