East Brockliss Loop - River Fork Ranch - Genoa

We've been so excited to get outside as the weather will let us this Spring. We had a nice sunshiny day and nothing to do, so we decided to head down to the River Fork Ranch and explore the Brockliss Loop.

This .75 mile loop is a nice little interpretive trail that takes you right down by the river. It's almost completely level, but not really bike/stroller friendly. The trail joins up with the West Fork Trail for the last little while as it heads back to the parking lot.
The easiest way to find the trail is to follow the trail markers around the Interpretive Center. There are several interesting signs that teach you about the area and the work of the Nature Conservancy if you're interested.
Another option is to start up the West Fork Trail and just keep an eye out for the trail marker that points you to the Brockliss Loop. It's not real obvious, but it's there. The trail is easy to follow and even has a few benches where you can rest and enjoy the view and the wildlife. There is even a fun Trail Treasures activity you can download and print before you go to keep the kids busy while you walk.
We had brought our bikes for this trip, but realized before we even got on the trail that maybe they weren't the right fit for this excursion. We left the bikes at the Interpretive Center and came back for them after we finished.
We loved the gorgeous views of the mountains and all the waterfowl flying overhead and all around. It was really a beautiful day!
A few things to remember before you go. There are no amenities here. No bathrooms or drinking water so come prepared. This is a designated nature preserve, as well as a working cattle ranch, so absolutely no dogs allowed here. As always, watch your kids around the water! We had a little more adventure when our three year old slipped into the river and was up to her chin before we even knew what happened. Luckily she stayed upright and everything ended just fine.
