Airport Open House 2019 - Carson City

Carson City's annual Airport Open House is a really amazing event for kids of all ages! If you haven't been to one yet we highly recommend it!
With a focus on aerospace and aviation education and careers, this free event is jam packed with all kinds of good stuff. Tons of aircraft are parked on the tarmac and visitors are able to walk around and check them all out. You can even climb right in to some of them!

The Cactus Air Force, a collection of military aircraft and other vehicles, have all kinds of really neat things on display. There are also things like med-evac helicopters, bi-planes, and all sorts of other fun craft to see.
In addition to the outdoor static exhibits, there is also the STEAM shed. This hanger has been made over into a kid-focused fun house, filled with all kinds of fun things. Lego robotics, crafts, games, and more fill every corner. You may want to bring something to carry home all the loot your kids will pick up in here.
Both years we have attended, Home Depot has had a craft station. This year our kids got to build an airplane out of wood to take home with them. They also got to keep their aprons, which they love!
Our kids are also always really excited to see what the Lego Robotics club have put together. They even had one robot that would play catch with the kids!
I want to be honest and tell you what to expect at this event so you can plan accordingly, but please don't let me scare you away. This is a really fabulous FREE family event that you really don't want to miss.
-Parking this year was off site about a quarter of a mile away. There was a single shuttle available to take people over to the airport, but it was very crowded and could not accommodate strollers or wheelchairs. The whole situation surrounding the parking was pretty poorly thought out, I really hope they make some major improvements for next time!
-Bathroom facilities were limited to a few porta-potties out in front of the airport. Not conveniently located at all, and not enough units. It was a long run with a desperate toddler when she decided she need to "go" and we were on the far end of the runway. There was a hand washing station outside the bathrooms.
-The only drinking water available was for sale (at a pretty high price) through the food trucks in attendance. Bring your own drinking water!
-This event happens in the middle of the day in the summer. It is hot. There is very little shade, and almost nowhere to sit down. Be prepared with hats, sunscreen, etc and be ready to be tired when you go home (but a good tired!).
