Fay-Luther Trail - Gardnerville

Okay, so I have to admit I wasn't along for the adventure on this one. My excellent Hubby took the kids on a hike on a day when I was under the weather, and was awesome enough to take pictures and provide me with the information for this post. If you're looking for a great place to take the kids hiking, I'm told this is it!

Located south of Gardnerville, NV, just before you hit the California state line, you will find the Fay-Luther trail head. This trail system encompasses 9 miles of trails that all loop and interconnect. This allows you to "choose your own adventure" so to speak. Want a short hike? Try the interpretive loop. Want a longer adventure? Pick any trail and if it ends before you're ready to quit than hop onto the next loop and see where it goes.
I am told that the trail-head is pretty easy to find and clearly visible from the road. Hubby said he got a little confused when he saw signs for the Job's Peak Trail head, but it's only a short drive past there to get to Fay-Luther. Either way both trails join together anyways, so either trail head should work for you.
There is a nice paved parking lot at the Fay-Luther trail-head with an information board, but that's about it. There are no bathrooms or drinking water here so come prepared.
The trails are mostly loose sand and fairly level, though I understand some of the trails have some elevation changes and differing terrain. Some of the trails are not suitable for bikes/horses, and I have to imagine it would be difficult to push a stroller through the sandy soil. Check the website link at the bottom of the post to read more about trail conditions.
The Carson Valley Trails Association has put together a fun little Trail Treasures guide to help your kids get the most out of hiking here. Check it out here.
I am also told that there are some great views of both the valley and the mountains from this trail. I'm looking forward to getting down there myself one of these days to check it out.
