Carson Valley Days Parade - Minden

2019 was our second year attending the Carson Valley Days Parade, and both times it has been a lot of fun! We definitely hope to be able to go back again next year! Somehow though, when I went to write this post, I found I'd managed to delete all but one of my pictures from this year! :( I've thrown in a couple from last year as well to help round things out.

For this event Hwy 395 is closed much of the way through Minden and down into Gardnerville. If you want to watch the parade from farther south you're going to need to be there quite early to get into town before the road gets shut down.
We have found that the easiest way to watch the parade if you're coming from the North is to park at the Douglas County Sheriff's Office and walk over to the  Minden Park (there will be law enforcement directing traffic making it very easy to cross the highway).
The parade actually starts right by the park, so you can find a spot there at the park, or anywhere up Esmeralda Ave and have an excellent view! We brought our own chairs, but both years there have been benches on the side of the street that were empty and we could have used them.
Every year the parade has a theme, and it's fun to see how all the different floats incorporate it. There is such a wide variety of participants that you never know what's coming up next! Both years the kids have gotten lots of candy, but they have also been given Otter Pops, coupons for ice cream from various shops, coupons to the swim center, toys, toothbrushes, and all kinds of treasures. Definitely bring a bag or two to carry all the loot home!
