Douglas County Library - Lake Tahoe Branch

Our family LOVES libraries! They are one of the first things we check out when we move to a new place and are such a rich treasure trove of great family-friendly (and almost always free) fun. In my last post I raved about the El Dorado County Library's South Lake Tahoe Branch, and today I have another Lake Tahoe library review for you. As there are at least 5 public libraries around the lake I'm sure I'll have more of these to share with you someday, but for now the others are still on our bucket list.

I love when libraries make some effort to be appealing to kids as a place to be, not just a place to grab a book from before moving on to somewhere more exciting. I was disappointed in Douglas County's Main Library for its lack of kid-friendly fun, and was afraid this one would be the same, but I was pleasantly surprised!
While the play opportunities aren't huge here, they at least have some! My two-year-old loved the toddler corner and had a blast climbing on the giant blocks and building with Lego Duplos. They had a fun selection of toddler-friendly books as well.
There wasn't as much available for the older kids, though there were a couple of touch-screen computers (with games!) and a chess/checkers set on a nearby table.
This library also seemed to have a fairly full calendar of story times and events that looked awesome, so if you're in the area it might be fun to check some of those out! The calendar can be found here.
This isn't a large library, but for the size it appeared to have a good collection. It had well cared-for restrooms (with changing tables) and plenty of parking, which is always a plus in a busy place like Tahoe. One major thing in this library's favor is that it sits right in the middle of Zephyr Cove Park, so you get indoor and outdoor fun all for free and all in one place. I'll be posting my review of the park next week, so keep your eyes out for that!
